Who will Jesus come back for?

The Bible says that when people are born again they become members of God's eternal kingdom.  The Bible also says that Jesus will come again to establish his Kingdom in its completed state.  This final kingdom called Heaven will never end.  It is a wonderful place with no sickness, no death, no sadness.  There is another place called hell. There, people who are not members of Jesus' Kingdom will suffer for eternity. 

So Jesus is going to come again to rule his born-again followers.  How can we make sure we are members of the good kingdom?  Here are some questions and answers about how we can know for sure that Jesus will come back for us and save us from hell.

Is there a creator?

What a great universe we live in.  It is huge and complex.  Almost all the people I meet agree that there is some creative force behind the formation of the universe.  Let's call that creative force God.

How good is the creator?

If there is a God so huge that he could make the universe, what kind of God is he?  He is a perfect God.  Science is filled with perfection. Mathematics and music show order.  God is 100% good.

How good are you?

If God is perfect, how perfect are you?  Maybe you do very good things, and you think you are 90% good.  Should a 100% perfect God allow only a 90% perfect human in his presence?  No!  Most people hope that there is a life after this life.  Some kind of perfect place.  Christians call this place heaven.  Think of heaven like a germ-free environment.  If you are carrying just a few germs, you could ruin the whole environment.  A 90% good person cannot be allowed into a 100% good environment.

How can you get pure enough to enter  a 100% perfect heaven?

You can clean your body on the outside, but you cannot clean your spirit on the inside.  Your spirit is what will go to heaven.  God can clean your spirit.  The way this is done is that God sent a sacrifice for you to make you pure -- to wash away your sins.  This sacrifice came and lived on earth and died to purify all people.  His name is Jesus.  If you believe that Jesus was the final sacrifice for your sins and confess your sins to God, you will be made pure and therefore you will be able to enter perfect heaven when you die.

What happens if I am not 100% pure when I die?

There is another place full of eternal suffering called hell.  By default, those who are not pure enough to go to heaven will go to hell.

Do I have to call myself a Christian to go to heaven?

No. The word Christian was invented by people who were not even Christians.  It means belonging to Christ, and at first it was used as a bad name for Christ followers.  It meant "Jesus nuts."  It does not matter what you call yourself as long as you trust only in Jesus to make you pure.

Do I have to read the Bible to go to heaven?

No.  Many Christians in many cultures don't even know how to read.  The Bible is not a magic book.  It is simply a set of instructions about how to have faith in Jesus to save us.  It is much easier to have faith and strength to live a Christian life if you can read how to do it directly in the Bible.  The message contained in the Bible can be given many ways:  radio, TV, cassette tape, etc.

Do I have to go to church to be a Christian?

No.  Church buildings did not exist at first when Christianity started.  The first Christians met in homes for meals and teaching about Christian living.  You can do the same.  You should seek to meet with other followers of Jesus in order to grow strong together.  If there is an open church near you, try it.  If they teach the Bible, then stay there and grow through serving others.

Do I have to follow a priest to go to heaven?

No.  You only have to follow the teachings of Jesus and simply trust in his work to save you.  A pastor of a church is a good guide to get you studying the Bible which is where you will find the answers to how you should live.

What about the other religions?

There are some other religions that have done some very good things for the human race.  Other religions teach us how to be good people and how to help other people.  Other religions teach us how to be disciplined people.  But if a follower of any religion is trusting in something other than the sacrifice of Jesus to make them pure, then they are not pure enough to enter heaven when they die.

Is Christianity an easy religion to follow?

It is very simple to be a Christian.  All you have to do is trust in the sacrifice of Jesus to save you.  But trusting in Jesus can cost you a lot.  Many people have been killed because they trust in Jesus.  Because Jesus gave us many good teachings that are found in the Bible,we can follow them and be very kind and loving people.  We can help people and make this world a much better place.  In fact, if someone follows the teachings of Jesus in the Bible, they would be considered good by the measure of most of the other religions.

Do I have to leave my current religion to trust in Jesus to save me?

It is not what religion you were born into that will keep you from heaven.  It is whether or not you trust in Jesus to save you that will allow you to go to heaven.  You have to make the difficult choice what your religious label will be.  I know of people who pray in a mosque and study the Koran yet they have decided that only Jesus can save them.  The apostle Paul in the Bible as a Jew became a follower of Jesus.  He did not quit going to the Jewish synagogues.  He spoke from within the Jewish community and called Jews to find the salvation from their sin in Jesus.

Can I know 100% that I will go to paradise when I die?

Yes, and that is why trusting in Jesus is the best choice.  Very few other religions offer the assurance of salvation that Christianity does.  Go ahead and do a survey yourself.  Ask different people from different religions where they will go when they die.  Most religions will answer "I do not know for sure."  Most Christians will answer, "Because I am trusting in Jesus to save me, I know I will go to Heaven when I die." 

Which religion is the safest one to follow?

If you wanted to do a silly thing and put gambling odds on which religion is the best bet to follow, you would find the answer is Christianity.  Christianity puts the work on Jesus to save us.  Other religions puts the work on the individual to save himself by being a good person.  Even though good works do not save Christians, you will find that as Christians read the Bible, they are instructed to lead very clean lives.  The other religions who believe we are saved by doing good things look at Christians and often put them in the saved category since the Christians are doing more good things than bad things.  But for the Christians, they look at other religions and they see that if someone is not trusting in Jesus to save them then they are following a wrong path to Heaven.  Put simply, if Christianity is right, then only Christians are going to heaven.  If Christianity is wrong, then Christians will still go to heaven according to the "all good people will go to heaven" philosophy of most religions. 

How can I become a Christian and know that Jesus will come back for me?

If you have concluded that you can in no way save yourself and you are ready to trust in Jesus to save you, then say this prayer to God;  "Dear God, Although I have tried to be good, I know that my sins have caused a separation between you and me.   I need a sacrifice that will make me clean and acceptable to you.  I believe that Jesus was that sacrifice and that he died to cleanse me from my sins.  I am sorry for the bad things I have done.  I want to go to heaven when I die.  Please save me from hell.  Please protect me from all demons.  Fill me with your Holy Spirit so that I can have the strength to live a clean life.  Help me to learn and follow the teaching of Jesus.  Amen
